Oryol summer residents have already planted potatoes, but farmers have not yet weeded out. Rainy weather interferes. However, farmers are counting on a good harvest of “second bread”, and this year the area under it has been increased.
- Peasant farms of the region annually increase the area under this crop. So, in 2020, 2.1 thousand hectares were sown, in 2021 – 2.2 thousand hectares, in 2022 – 2.5 thousand hectares, – said Sergey Borzenkov, Deputy Prime Minister for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex.
By the way, last year farmers harvested 193.4 thousand tons of tubers. At the same time, the lion’s share of the harvest falls on household plots – 138 thousand tons.
A large producer of potatoes is the KFH Stebakov G.V., in the Oryol region. According to Borzenkov, at the moment this agricultural crop occupies almost 600 hectares on the farm. KFH built several greenhouses for growing seed mini-tubers from test-tube plants, refrigerators were built for their storage. The plans are to produce potato seeds not only for ourselves, but also for sale.
Potatoes are also grown for sale at ElitBioProduct LLC (Mtsensk district), 626 hectares are allocated for it.
It is curious that this year more potatoes than usual will be planted in private households in the Oryol region. Those who planted potatoes before are planning to increase the size of the garden, and every ninth resident of the region who has not planted this vegetable before is going to do so. At the same time, 11% will do it for the first time.
