The massive collection of autumn onions in the amount of more than 1 million tons will fully meet the needs of the domestic market until the next season. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazinform correspondent reports.
“Stocks of potatoes and onions in the domestic market have been and remain sufficient. With a monthly demand of 25,000 tons, onion stocks as of August 20 are 33,000 tons. In addition, a massive collection of autumn onions in the amount of more than 1 million tons has now begun, which will fully meet the needs of the domestic market until the next season,” the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture said in response to an official request from MIA Kazinform.
The department noted a decrease in prices for onions in the field. In the Zhambyl region, the cost of onions in the field has decreased to 60-80 tenge, and in the Turkestan region – to 55-60 tenge.
With a monthly demand of the domestic market for potatoes in the amount of 152.6 thousand tons, stocks for August 20 amount to 155.2 thousand tons.
“According to forecasts, the gross harvest of potatoes this year is expected to be at the level of average annual volumes – about 4 million tons, of which only organized farms will produce 2 million tons. These volumes will fully meet the needs of the domestic market,” the ministry added.
Earlier it was reported that sugar reserves in the country exceed 33 thousand tons, and sugar prices will decrease by autumn.
