The chance of an infection with late blight is high when potatoes show rapid foliage growth in the period from mid-May to mid-July in combination with wet conditions. In recent years, the infection pressure has been low due to dry and warm weather, but 2021 may just show a different weather in this critical period of rapid foliage growth.
Fungicide PROXANIL® has a systemic and translaminar action against Phytophthora and is effective throughout the above-ground potato crop. The product contains the active ingredients propamocarb 400 g/l + cymoxanil 50 g/l. This unique combination has a triple action against Phytophthora:
1. Stops mycelium growth fungus
2. Anti-sporulating
3. Healing kick back effect
Stop spraying PROXANIL plus partner fungicide
In the presence of Phytophthora infestation in a potato crop, a stop spraying can be carried out at a short interval with at least two times PROXANIL plus a partner fungicide with another active substance.
Advice in case of visible Phytophthora infestation:
– PROXANIL 2 L/ha + NAUTILE® WG / VIDEO® WG 2 kg/ha (last season) or
– PROXANIL 2 – 2.5 L/ha + Zorvec® Endavia* 0.4 L/ ha or
– PROXANIL 2 – 2.5 L/ha + Ranman® Top** 0.5 L/ha
Use the highest dosage of PROXANIL 2.5 L/ha in the presence of large and large developed potato leaves. The PROXANIL + Ranman Top** stop combination is mainly used from the beginning of August, when the crop has collapsed and the crop remains wet for a long time due to longer dew nights.
An interval too long
If the interval between two sprays is too long for sufficient protection, SACRON® WG can be added. SACRON WG is and solo cymoxanil formulation. Adding this product gives 1 – 2 days retroactive effect to a fungicide spray against Phytophthora in potatoes. It is important that the correct dose of cymoxanil is applied with SACRON WG, namely 0.265 kg/ha.
pH spray liquid
The active ingredient cymoxanil is sensitive to accelerated degradation at a high pH value. If the water being used has a pH of 7 or higher, add a pH-lowering product before adding PROXANIL or SACRON WG. Ideal is a pH between 5 and 6.
