Spring sowing of most crops ends in the Lipetsk region

Understanding the complexity of the situation and the responsibility for food security, the region’s farmers work around the clock.
Sowing of spring grain crops, including corn for grain, was carried out on 400 thousand hectares. Oats, lupins and peas are fully sown. Almost completed work on the fields allotted for barley and spring wheat. They have already been placed on 98 and 96 percent of the area, respectively. The sowing of corn for grain is going on at an active pace. Today it is located on 52 thousand hectares (64%).
Sugar beet sowing was carried out on 115 thousand hectares out of 125 planned. Last year, the entire sown area under this strategic crop amounted to 110 thousand hectares.
Oilseeds have already been planted on 275,000 hectares. Sowing of rapeseed is completed, 14% of the area remains to be sown with sunflower. Soybeans have been sown on 60,000 hectares out of the planned 115,000. This year, the area under this rather new crop for the region will be increased by more than 25,000 hectares.
The planting of potatoes is coming to an end. It is located on 82% (4.2 thousand hectares) of the area allocated for “second bread”. 304 hectares (66%) were sown with open ground vegetables. These are mainly onions, beets, carrots and gourds.
The total sown area in the Lipetsk region this year will be 1.4 million hectares.
