The issues of developing trade cooperation were discussed today by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Annageldi Yazmyradov. The working meeting was held at the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
According to Dmitry Patrushev, the agro-industrial complex accounts for about 20% of the total volume of trade between Russia and Turkmenistan. Our country continues to increase the turnover of agricultural products and foodstuffs. So, according to the results of last year, it rose to 167 million dollars. A favorable trend is also observed in the current year – in five months the indicator increased by 70%.
The minister noted the interest in expanding the volume of deliveries and diversifying the product range, in particular, increasing the export of grain and fat-and-oil products, sugar and confectionery. Also, taking into account the needs and capacity of the domestic market, Russia is ready to increase the volume of purchases of vegetables and fruits from Turkmenistan.
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture stressed that Turkmenistan is a strategic partner for Russia, and our country is interested in intensifying cooperation in the agricultural sector.
