Rivers dry up due to drought in Moldova

More than a dozen small rivers in Moldova dried up due to intense heat and lack of precipitation, the Hydrometeorological Service of Moldova said on July 25, according to Arguments and Facts in Moldova.

The most affected by the drought are small rivers, whose water content is from 0% to 10%.

The channel completely dried up near the rivers Bykovets, Delia, Lunguts, Lunga, Nyrnova, Cahul, Kushmirka, Kula, Kogylnik (a tributary of the Reut River), Salchia Mare, Solonets, Sarata and Tigech.

The water content of the Prut River is 15-30% of the average long-term values. At the Dniester the situation is better, but also at the limit, the river’s water content is 30-40% of the average long-term values.

Recall that in Moldova, because of the intense heat, farms suffer, in which crops die without irrigation. According to preliminary data, the harvest of corn and sunflower was under threat.

The authorities of the republic are asking citizens to save water. Note that the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, takes water from the Dniester River.
