The agricultural landscape in Alesón, La Rioja, is witnessing a significant transformation with the revival of the Patatas Lahera plant by Grupo Apex. After being shuttered since 2021, the plant is poised to make a comeback in December, marking a strategic move by Grupo Apex into the production of French fries.

The investment includes two industrial fryers, two packaging machines, and a continuous frying line, setting the stage for a robust production capacity. Grupo Apex, known for its commitment to growth, plans to further expand by investing in additional lines in 2024. According to the company’s statement, this transformation is expected to create more than 50 direct jobs, providing a boost to the local economy.

In the fiscal year ending May 2023, Grupo Apex reported a turnover of EUR135 million (USD147.5 million). The acquisition of the Patatas Lahera plant aligns seamlessly with the company’s growth strategy, emphasizing the expansion of its industrial footprint throughout Spain. This move reflects Grupo Apex’s dedication to enhancing its capabilities in the production of chips and savory snacks.

Grupo Apex, with ten operational sites in Spain and a workforce of over 550 employees, is a powerhouse in the snacks industry. The company’s diverse portfolio, featuring popular brands like Aspitos and Mikso, attests to its prominence and influence in the market.

The revival of the Patatas Lahera plant by Grupo Apex signifies not only a strategic business move but also a positive development for the local community. The infusion of investments, the creation of job opportunities, and the expansion of production capacities contribute to the overall growth of the agricultural and snacks sector in Alesón and beyond. Grupo Apex’s commitment to innovation and expansion positions them as a key player in shaping the future of Spanish snacks production.
