Restrain announced recently that the company will exhibit its ethylene gas system at the upcoming Potato Expo event in California, January 5 – 6, 2022. Restrain uses natural ethylene gas which keeps potatoes dormant and controls sprouting.
“Restrain is an affordable and easy-to-use system to control sprouting,” says Dirk Garos, Global Sales Director at Restrain. “Using ethylene gas means growers won’t leave any residue in their crop or storage facility, allowing them to deliver potatoes which can be used immediately after storage for processing. Trials show that fry colours of processing potatoes can be preserved. It can also be used for seed potato storage. Restrain is also suitable for storages containing organic potatoes.”
Garos points out that Restrain ethylene offers the same advantages as a sprout inhibitor as CIPC. He says it can be used in all types of storages – growers do not need to make any adjustments to their storage facilities and it can be used in box or bulk storages. The treatment is cost-effective and no fogging equipment is needed – a Restrain generator is supplied.
“There is no risk of skin burn to potato tubers,” says Dirk Garos. “Growers can ventilate their storages daily without affecting the efficacy of the Restrain anti-sprouting treatment. The Restrain generator continuously distributes a low concentration of natural ethylene gas evenly throughout a storage facility. Restrain is safe and a sensor is supplied to measure the ethylene concentration in the store – it automatically adjusts the gas production.”
Restrain will be present at booth 407 during Potato Expo on January 5 – 6, 2022. The expo will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. The company will also exhibit at British Potato 2021 on 24 – 25 November, and the Interpom Kortrijk event on November 28 – 30.
