The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan discussed bilateral cooperation by phone and exchanged views on the regional agenda.
The President of Uzbekistan discussed with his Azerbaijani counterpart the issues of developing mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthening strategic partnerships.
Telephone conversations between Mirziyoyev and Aliyev took place on August 23 “in a traditionally open, warm and friendly atmosphere,” the press service of the President of Uzbekistan notes.
“Notable progress was noted with satisfaction in the implementation of the agreements reached following the summit meetings in June this year,” the report says.
Mutual trade has grown by 70 percent this year. The implementation of joint cooperation projects in the field of agriculture, sericulture and textile industry, mechanical engineering, chemical and other industries has begun. Work is underway to launch the Uzbek-Azerbaijani investment fund as soon as possible. Cultural and humanitarian exchange is expanding.
The heads of state spoke in favor of further building up practical cooperation, and noted the importance of holding a Forum of Regions this fall and an exhibition of the industrial potential of the two countries.
An exchange of views on the regional agenda also took place. The schedule and agenda of upcoming multilateral meetings, including the upcoming summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Organization of Turkic States in Samarkand, were considered.
The day before, Shavkat Mirziyoyev also had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The leaders discussed issues of further development of Russian-Uzbek cooperation and touched upon preparations for the upcoming SCO summit in Samarkand.
