The heads of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan noted the growth of trade by 70% this year, touched upon the activities for the early launch of a joint investment fund.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev called his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, the press service of the President of Azerbaijan reported on Tuesday.
The parties discussed issues of further development of mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthening of strategic partnership between the two countries.
During the conversation, noticeable progress was noted in the implementation of the agreements reached following the meetings of the heads of state in June this year.
The fruitful results of the next meeting of the joint Intergovernmental Commission and the first meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Transport of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey in early August were also emphasized.
The growth of trade turnover this year by 70%, the implementation of joint projects in agriculture, sericulture and the textile industry, engineering, chemical and other industries were emphasized by Ilham Aliyev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev in discussions. They also touched upon the work on the early launch of the Uzbek-Azerbaijani investment fund, the expansion of cultural and humanitarian exchange.
The heads of state spoke in favor of further building up cooperation in the practical sphere, noted the importance of holding a Forum of Regions and an exhibition of the industrial potential of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan next autumn.
The parties also exchanged views on the regional agenda during a telephone conversation. The schedule and agenda of the upcoming multilateral meetings, including the upcoming summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Organization of Turkic States in Samarkand, were considered.
