Ukrainian farmers are raising prices for their high-quality potatoes.

They claim that the harsh winter weather conditions, which have occurred throughout Ukraine since the beginning of this week, is the reason for the increase in selling prices.

Farmers are offering high-quality potatoes for sale at UAH 8-10/kg ($0.29-0.36/kg), which is on average 14% more expensive than the week before. Potatoes at a market, of which its characteristics do not always suit the end consumer, are selling on average at 7.50 UAH/kg ($0.27/kg).

According to industry experts, the reason for the price increase is the limited supply of potatoes on the market due to unfavourable weather conditions and interruptions in supplies due to frost and snowdrifts on the roads. Also of note is that the volume of potato supplies in the current season is inferior to last year all while representatives of wholesale companies and retail chains often complain about the quality of potatoes being offered.

East-fruit.com reports that today, the cost of potatoes in Ukraine is on average 29% higher than in the same period in 2020. The majority of market players predict that as soon as weather conditions stabilize, the rise in prices in the potato segment may stop.
