South-Africa meets first Dewulf potato harvester

Dewulf, specialist in harvesting technology of potatoes and carrots, introduced its first potato harvester in South-Africa earlier this year.

Carl Steyn, owner of the company Forest Lodge, was the first and proud owner of a Dewulf RJA2060, 2-row trailed potato harvester.

Thanks to this purchase, he will be harvesting over 250ha every year.

The first two months of the harvesting season in South-Africa are rainy. For the rest of the season, the country is known for its dry climate with clods as result. The RJA2060 is equipped with a flat hedgehog belt and finger system on top and an Easy-clean unit downstairs which takes care of the clods.

Carl Steyn explains: ‘Before we knew Dewulf, 90% of our land was harvested with a single row potato harvester. When we had wet and difficult circumstances, the harvester couldn’t handle these conditions. This meant that we needed to harvest by hand. To enlarge our productivity and to keep harvesting in difficult situations, we needed to invest in a suitable harvester. After we gained information of other international farmers and two company visits, we were convinced that Dewulf was the best choice we could make. The first potato harvester for South-Africa was ordered!’

The favorable climate and the fertile soil in South-Africa contributes to great opportunities for Dewulf. Also McCain South-Africa harvests now with two RJA2060’s. One of these harvesters was also present at the exhibition of Interpom in Belgium. Before the end of the year, a new selfpropelled potato harvester will also be shipped to another South-African farmer.
