The markets for fresh potatoes remain price-bearing. Exports enjoy a lively demand from Africa, Spain and Portugal. There is also interest in good quality fresh potatoes from the Far East. The market is also supported by the domestic demand from the retailers. The grower prices for export potatoes varied from 5.00 euros to 7.50 euros. The supply of oversized seed potatoes was between 4.50 euros and 6.00 euros.
Lockdown
The lockdown measures ensure a very calm potato market for the industry. There is no demand for free potatoes from the factories. Dry, high-quality batches are sometimes offered for export. Alternative applications in, for example, biogas, feed or starch remain an option. Especially in view of the high storage costs and the lack of prospects for the free market. Ultimately, the market will change at some point. The question, however, is when?
