Belgapom quotes only 2 euros for chips potatoes

The markets for fresh potatoes remain price-bearing. Exports enjoy a lively demand from various countries. The demand for free potatoes by the factories is still nil.

The markets for fresh potatoes remain price-bearing. Exports enjoy a lively demand from Africa, Spain and Portugal. There is also interest in good quality fresh potatoes from the Far East. The market is also supported by the domestic demand from the retailers. The grower prices for export potatoes varied from 5.00 euros to 7.50 euros. The supply of oversized seed potatoes was between 4.50 euros and 6.00 euros.

Lockdown

The lockdown measures ensure a very calm potato market for the industry. There is no demand for free potatoes from the factories. Dry, high-quality batches are sometimes offered for export. Alternative applications in, for example, biogas, feed or starch remain an option. Especially in view of the high storage costs and the lack of prospects for the free market. Ultimately, the market will change at some point. The question, however, is when?

Quotes

Last week the markets in NW Europe were unchanged to lower. The European Processing Potato Index fell by 10 cents to 3.10 euros. The forward market for delivery in April 2021 continues in a bandwidth of between 5.30 euros and 6.00 euros. Trading volumes are low. Interest in the delivery month of April 2022 continues to grow around the price level of 14.00 euros with an open position of 944 (+33 week-on-week).
