Due to cold wave conditions in major cultivating areas, a delay of new-season potato liftings is registered in India.
“This season has started a bit late because harvesting was disturbed due to the cold conditions but despite the turbulence, we expect cold chains to utilize their capacities to the full this season because yields are anticipated higher,” Hasmukh Gandhi, Cold Chain Association president said.
Usually, the Indian spud growers start storing the freshly lifted potatoes in cold storages from January but this season has started from February due to delayed harvesting, though likely higher yield this year is expected to exhaust the capacity of cold chains, according to the Cold Chain Association cited by The Times of India.
