In order to develop agricultural activity, the private company in conjunction with producers and with the support of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), has been promoting technologies for the potato seeds production technologies in Tarma.
Through an emblematic project of the electricity generating company, it has been supporting family farming in Huasahuasi, a direct benefit for the Management Committee of Potato Producers that reaches 523 families dedicated to the cultivation of native and commercial potatoes.
This implementation to date has 43 modules for the production of pre-basic potato seeds located in the different populated centers, villages and sectors of the peasant communities and has the permanent follow-up and monitoring of the field servers of SENASA, as an Authority National in seeds.
SENASA, starting in July 2020, carries out the seed certification process through two field inspections and one storage inspection to guarantee the quality of seeds of the Certified Class.
Likewise, the specialists carry out the inspections of the Genetics class seed production carried out in the modules (covers and / or greenhouses) managed by small producers from in vitro seedlings, which is replicated and transplanted to the production beds of the potato tubercles pre-basic.
These seeds, which are later taken to the field for the production of Certified Class seed, are free of viruses and other sanitary problems. This action allows to maximize the production of the potato crop up to a yield increase of 70% with the use of this quality seed.
These modules have been built with materials from the area and have 35 square meters each, which has been produced twice a year by sowing 720 seedlings and it is possible to obtain more than 4 thousand little tubercles according to the cultivar: variety native and / or commercial.
“We as farmers are convinced of producing quality seeds, with this project (potato seed production technologies) we have verified and achieved it. We have the capacity and the skills. Each partner is convinced of them and has been working on behalf of their family, ”emphasized Jesús Bovis Quispe, a small producer from Huasahuasi.
Through these specialized techniques by MIDAGRI, it is verified that the small producer is capable of adopting advanced techniques for the production of quality seed adapted to their own local conditions and they are convinced about the importance of using quality seed is the basis for the productivity of your crops.
SENASA’s competition in seeds became official on June 19, therefore, as part of its work, it promotes the supply and use of quality seeds, certified seed and ensures compliance with the legal framework on seeds.
