In celebration of the UN’s International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, Patatas Meléndez has launched an initiative to highlight and amplify the voices of women in the agricultural sector. The company is organizing a series of discussion forums that will travel through Castilla y León, Andalusia, and Galicia during the spring, summer, and autumn of this year. The first meeting will take place in Seville in early May, bringing together female farmers, field technicians, and the Patatas Meléndez team. These gatherings aim to create a space for dialogue on key topics such as female leadership tied to the land, the future of rural areas, and the role of women as drivers of innovation and sustainable development.
Each session will follow a circular dialogue model to foster active listening and open, non-hierarchical conversation. Participants will share personal and professional experiences, addressing challenges like land access, work-life balance, the gender pay gap, and the impact of climate change on farming communities. The one-hour sessions will be recorded and published on Patatas Meléndez’s YouTube channel and social media. Furthermore, the insights and proposals gathered from these forums will be compiled into a formal paper and shared with key rural development organizations. Through this initiative, Patatas Meléndez reaffirms its commitment to equal opportunities and the revitalization of rural areas by championing the transformative power of the women who cultivate a more sustainable and inclusive future.
