Innovating Towards Sustainable Crop Protection Solutions

Loveland, CO – Nutrien Ag Solutions has announced a significant step forward in bolstering its biocontrol capabilities with the acquisition of Suncor Energy’s AgroScience assets. This acquisition includes a suite of patented and patent-pending technologies focused on biocontrol, aligning closely with Nutrien Ag Solutions’ strategy to invest in novel and effective agricultural technologies through its Loveland Products business.

The newly acquired technologies are poised to revolutionize the global agriculture industry by introducing innovative modes of action that enhance resistance management. Initial research and field trials indicate that these technologies offer competitive efficacy, stability, and economic benefits comparable to traditional synthetic crop protection inputs.

Casey McDaniel, Vice President of Loveland Products, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: “We’re excited to advance these cutting-edge technologies that are designed to expand Loveland Product’s portfolio and support farmers in maximizing yields. As the demand for sustainable agricultural solutions grows, we anticipate increased adoption of bio-based products that integrate seamlessly into existing farm management practices.”

McDaniel emphasized Nutrien Ag Solutions’ commitment to innovation: “Biologicals represent the next frontier in agriculture. Over the coming months and years, we are committed to bringing more of these advanced solutions to market under the Loveland brand, catering to farmers of all scales and in diverse geographical regions.”

The introduction of chlorin-based photosensitizer formulations is anticipated in select global markets by 2025, with plans for EPA submissions in the U.S. by 2026. These products will be marketed as part of the Loveland Products portfolio, aiming to set new benchmarks in sustainable crop protection.
