As part of the “Santiago Viendo el Campo” project, the team led by Dina Marca continued its agricultural journey through Colombia, this time visiting the municipality of Funza, located in the Altiplano Cundiboyacense region. This area is well-known for its vast and emblematic potato fields — a flagship crop of the Colombian highlands.

During the visit, special attention was given to an innovative agricultural approach — biostimulation and sustainable crop management, promoted by UPL, a global leader in crop protection solutions.
From Traditional Chemicals to Natural Technologies
UPL representative and agronomist Oscar Rejenero spoke about the need to transition from conventional agrochemicals to natural, environmentally friendly alternatives. According to him, modern farmers face increasing challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, and soil degradation. To tackle these issues, UPL offers integrated programs through its Natural Plant Protection line, combining nutrition, stimulation, and biocontrol.
Key products showcased include:
- Recon Rebound – a plant-based moisture retention agent that helps preserve soil water during dry periods.
- Uniplex – a granular solution that prevents fertilizer losses due to evaporation and temperature fluctuations.
- Cationic – a fulvic acid-based additive that enhances micronutrient availability and stimulates early root development.
- Fito Oli and Coupler – organic plant stimulants enriched with vitamins and minerals to improve tuber formation and overall plant vigor.
- CAFO – a foliar fertilizer rich in potassium and amino acids, crucial during the starch accumulation phase in potatoes.
Results from the Field
On a plot located in the rural area of La Isla, Vinca, a local farmer shared his experience using UPL’s natural product portfolio. The results were significant:
- stronger, healthier root systems;
- more resilient plants;
- yield increases of up to 70%;
- improved tuber size and quality.
Farmer Education and Support
UPL is also focused on educating farmers and distributors. Agronomist Fernando Martínez leads technical training sessions across Colombia, teaching proper calibration of application equipment, efficient product usage, and safe handling practices to ensure both crop productivity and worker well-being.
A Sustainable Future
With over 15 years in the Colombian market, UPL is now a leading company in crop protection sales nationally and ranks among the top five globally. Through its sustainability strategy, the company emphasizes low-impact, economically viable agricultural solutions that boost productivity while preserving natural resources.
“Santiago Viendo el Campo” continues to highlight inspiring agricultural practices across Colombia — bringing visibility to innovative technologies, passionate growers, and the hard work that puts food on people’s tables every day.
