Harvesting potatoes and vegetables in the open ground in the Stavropol Territory began two weeks later than last year. The reason for this was the heavy rains that took place at the beginning of the sowing season, which delayed the start of work. At the same time, almost ten percent of the sowing crops have already been processed.
More than 18 thousand tons of potatoes have already been harvested. Agricultural enterprises continue to work. The regional Ministry of Agriculture continues to monitor that they are provided with everything necessary to continue the campaign.
Most of the harvest has already gone on sale. Thanks to this, the selling price per ton of potatoes decreased by 40 percent.
“Now our vegetable growers are just entering the active phase of harvesting. However, in just a few days, farmers have already harvested more than 550 hectares of area occupied by potatoes. This is almost a tenth of the planned volume,
said the first deputy chairman of the government of Stavropol Vladimir Sitnikov.
Harvesting of other open ground vegetables also continues in the region. About 2.5 thousand tons of onions, cabbages, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers and green peas were harvested. Almost half of the harvested crop has already arrived on the shelves of shops and markets of the region. This has already affected prices. The cost of cabbage and cucumbers decreased by almost a third. Beetroot has also fallen in price by five percent.
Earlier it was reported that in nine districts of the region, the harvesting of grain and legumes was completed. The Governor of the Stavropol Territory, Vladimirov Vladimirov, noted that the hard work of agrarians makes it possible to provide not only the region’s own needs, but also the country’s food security.
