The area of irrigated land is increasing in the Karaganda region. 101 agricultural enterprises are engaged in irrigation of fields in the region, Kazinform correspondent reports.
“Since the beginning of the year, 3,494 hectares of arable land have been put into irrigation in the Karaganda region. The number of households is also growing. This year, six agricultural formations have joined. They mainly grow cereals, potatoes, vegetables, oilseeds and fodder crops,” says Askar Sanaubarov, head of the agriculture department.
With irrigated agriculture, the yield of many crops increases by 2–3 times. This is facilitated by modern sprinkler installations. The state allocates subsidies for the purchase of equipment and the delivery of irrigation water. According to Askar Sanaubarov, 206.1 million tenge was allocated for water supply services to agricultural producers for 2022.
“The purchase of sprinkler equipment and fertilizers is well subsidized. We are expanding on a regular basis. We buy sprinklers every year. At first there were two such machines only for potatoes. Now there are already grains for irrigation,” explains Maxim Bukaemsky, Director of Baimyrza-Agro 2018 LLP.
The acreage is also expanding on the farm. In 2022, another 126 hectares were added. Today, 266 hectares of potatoes, 70 hectares of wheat, 50 hectares of peas, 90 hectares of barley, 210 hectares of cereals, legumes and oilseeds are irrigated. Elite seed material is purchased from specialized farms in Kazakhstan, Russia and Germany.
