Mexico: will hold first regional potato fair in Michoacan

Jorge Zárate Magdaleno, coordinator of the academic unit of the Basque University of Quiroga (Uvaq) in Zamora, announced the first regional potato Fair in Tangancícuaro this weekend, where you can taste different varieties of potato-based dishes.

With this showcase expect an influx of 3 thousand to 5 thousand people and will begin at noon this Saturday with a gastronomic exhibition and sporting events, and will conclude next Sunday with a musical Variety, he said in an interview for UM News.

Among the activities that will be developed stands out an amateur contest, basketball quadrangular, billiards tournament, volleyball exhibition, four workshops of equal number of universities and the tasting of more than 60 dishes.

This concern came after producers and locals expressed their interest in strengthening this production and spreading it at the state level and after that those involved concluded that this region is the largest producer of potatoes and it was decided to support it.

“In Tangancícuaro is produced about 60 percent of all the potato that is produced in Michoacán; in the state are produced about 3 thousand hectares of which, about 700 thousand are produced precisely in Tangancícuaro””

Despite this, he indicated that there are people who do not know this potential because the municipality is very extensive and covers the area of the Plateau and the upper part of Tarecuato, near Guarachanillo. In addition, the municipalities of Nahuatzen, Santiago Tangamandapio and Charapan.

Given the expectation, he indicated that they expect people to come tasty and know the municipality to support local production and contribute to the economy of the area and in turn taste a variety of potato-based foods.
