Kazakh farmers expect a rich potato harvest. Prices may come down

There will be no problems with supplying the domestic market with potatoes.
In 2022, the harvest of Kazakhstani potatoes may exceed last year’s figures. In this case, about 300,000 tons of the product will be redundant, and the price of potatoes will fall, Khabar 24 reports.

The expected surplus is intended to be exported. In 2022, domestic farmers have only one sales market – Uzbekistan. The Union of Potato and Vegetable Growers explained that there would be no deliveries to Russia, since a good harvest is also expected there.

“Everything is determined by demand. Taking into account the fact that exports to Russia are not planned, prices for potatoes on the domestic market are likely to decline. Farmers can even sell a kilogram of 80 tenge from the warehouse,” said Kairat Bisetaev, chairman of the board of the union.

There will be no problems in supplying the domestic market with potatoes, he stressed.

How much are potatoes now. Prices per kilogram vary from 130 to 250 tenge. According to correspondents of the publication, potatoes are the cheapest in Pavlodar. This is followed by Karaganda – from 145 tenge per kilogram. It is sold a little more expensive in the capital – from 160 tenge. In Almaty, potatoes cost 180 tenge per kilo. The highest price was in Petropavlovsk – 250 tenge per kilogram.
