Kaliningraders began to grow less potatoes

In 2021, in farms of all categories, the sown area of agricultural crops amounted to 298.3 thousand hectares and increased by 3.8% compared to 2020, including: agricultural enterprises account for 255.4 thousand hectares (85.6% sown areas); farm crops amounted to 36.3 thousand hectares (12.2%); in the households of the population – 6.6 thousand hectares (2.2%). The relevant data is given in the report on the environmental situation in the Kaliningrad region in 2021.

Kaliningraders began to grow less potatoes

In 2021, 50% of the sown area of the region was sown with grain and leguminous crops, 149.1 thousand hectares are occupied under them, which is 8.6% more than in 2020, including 86.3 thousand hectares under winter crops crops (20.3% more), 62.8 thousand hectares – under spring crops (4.2% less). The sown areas under industrial crops increased by 9.2% and amounted to 50.9 thousand hectares.

Potato sown areas decreased by 4.3% and amounted to 5.9 thousand hectares. The sown area of open ground vegetables (including covered ground by population) increased by 30 hectares, which is 1.1% higher than in 2020. Forage crops cover 89.7 thousand hectares, which is 5.3% less than in 2020. The decrease in the area of fodder crops is associated with the plowing of old-aged perennial grasses and with the transfer of part of them to intensive use.

The tendency to reduce the sown area of potatoes in the households continues. As in previous years, agricultural organizations remain the main producers of grain and oilseeds in the region. In 2021, they accounted for 89.2% of the gross grain harvest (636 thousand tons) and 91.9% of the gross harvest of oilseeds (147 thousand tons).

The production of potatoes and vegetables is concentrated in households, which in 2021 grew 47.3% of the total potato harvest and 49.7% of open and protected ground vegetables. In 2021, the gross harvest of agricultural crops in farms of all categories, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kaliningrad Region, amounted to:
— cereals and legumes – 714.2 thousand tons;

  • potatoes – 113.3 thousand tons;
    — open field vegetables – 59 thousand tons;
    — greenhouse vegetables — 9 thousand tons;
  • industrial crops – 159.9 thousand tons;
  • fruit crops – 45.9 thousand tons;
  • berry crops – 6.2 thousand tons.

For the harvest of 2022, 133 thousand hectares of winter crops were sown, including 89 thousand hectares of winter grain crops and 44 thousand hectares of winter rapeseed.
