At a meeting of the Georgian government, a draft “Technical Regulation on Approving the Rules for Monetary Compensation for Environmental Damage” was adopted, initiated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the press service of the department reports.
The project was prepared in accordance with the Law of Georgia “On Environmental Liability” and its purpose is to determine the rules for calculating damage caused to the environment and monetary compensation for damage caused if the level of damage to nature does not meet the criteria for significant damage established by law.
According to a government decree, in some cases, the rules for calculating environmental damage are tightened.
In particular, the rules for calculating damage caused to the environment during the illegal use of forest resources, certain types of minerals, as well as species of the animal world (for example, the imperial eagle, vulture, red-headed falcon, Caucasian snowcock and others) have been tightened, and the terms in in accordance with the Forest Code of Georgia.
