Exploring Collaborations: KF Biotech Bridges Indian Market with Global Potato Varieties

In a bid to introduce a diverse range of potato varieties into the Indian market, KF Biotech is actively engaging with renowned breeders and seed companies. Among these collaborators are prominent names like HZPC, Stet, Meijer, and Solana, signaling a significant stride towards diversifying the potato landscape in India. These partnerships aim to facilitate the introduction and testing of new potato varieties across multiple locations in the country.

KF Biotech, with its Minitubers Production facility in Bangalore (Karnataka), has been at the forefront of this initiative. Since its inception in 2005 with an annual capacity of 2.5 million Minitubers, the facility has witnessed exponential growth, now boasting a capacity of 15 million Minitubers annually. Furthermore, the establishment of a new Minitubers production facility in Punjab, with a capacity of 20 million Minitubers annually, underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its operations and meeting the growing demand for potato seeds in India.

With an annual production capacity of 35,000 MT of potato seeds and a robust infrastructure comprising 10 cold storage units with a combined capacity of 62,000 MT, KF Biotech is well-equipped to support the introduction and distribution of new potato varieties in the Indian market. The company currently offers a portfolio of 85 potato varieties, catering to both field planting (4,000 Acres) and potato seed sales (35,000 MT).

In addition to its endeavors in the potato sector, KF Biotech has also made significant strides in the banana and tea industries. Its Banana tissue culture lab in Bangalore has a capacity of producing 10 million plants annually, featuring varieties such as G 9, GG9, JORDAN, WILLIUM, and ZELIG. The company’s Tea Gardens in Siliguri (West Bengal) cover an area of 120 acres and boast a processing unit capable of producing 150,000 Kg of Green tea annually, under the brand name Shesanima.

For companies interested in exploring collaboration opportunities or conducting trials of their varieties, KF Biotech provides a strategic partnership platform. By leveraging its extensive infrastructure and expertise, the company offers a conducive environment for the evaluation and introduction of novel potato varieties in the Indian market.
