Potato growers and farmers are constantly seeking new and effective ways to control pests in their crops. In this article, we will explore the latest data on the control of Paratrioza nymphs in potatoes and evaluate the effectiveness of various treatments.

According to recent studies, the control of Paratrioza nymphs and adults was evaluated using a method that selected five points in the center of each plot and evaluated 10 leaves on each plant, inspecting the top and bottom for nymphs and adults. The evaluation was done before the second application, 8 days after the first application, and a second time 7 days after the second application.

Table 2 shows the results of the study, which was conducted in 2022 in Guaracal Sidewalk, Potosi Municipality. Eight days after applying the treatments, the best control of nymphs was obtained with treatment 4, Olzo 300 SC 0.3 L/ha, followed by treatment 2, Pyriproxyfen 100 EC 0.5 L/ha. Treatment 5, Diflubenzuron 400 g/L + Lambda-cyhalotrin 100 g/L 0.3 L/ha presented the least control, showing a significant difference at 5%.

1. Pyriproxyfen 0.4 L/ha59 c68b
2. Pyriproxyfen 0.5 L/ha60 cd69bc
3. Olzo 300 SC 0.2 L/ha33a84d

5. Diflubenzuron 400g/L + Lambda-cyhalotrin100 g/L 0.3 L/ha37ab59a

After the second application, which was done 15 days after the first application, the cumulative effect of the treatments was observed. The treatments with Olzo 300 SC 0.2 and 0.3 L/ha were the best, without showing significant differences at 5% between them, but with the other treatments. Treatment 5, Diflubenzuron 400 g/L + Lambda-cyhalotrin 100 g/L 0.3 L/ha, presented the least control.

Based on the latest data and results, treatment with Olzo 300 SC at a rate of 0.3 L/ha was found to be the most effective in controlling Paratrioza nymphs in potatoes. However, it is essential to note that the effectiveness of any treatment may vary depending on the location and environmental factors. Therefore, we recommend that farmers consult with agricultural engineers and agronomists to develop an integrated pest management plan that considers the specific conditions of their crops.
