Uniting Efforts for Progress in the Potato Industry
In the heart of the agricultural community, a new campaign dubbed #patatanueva has sprung to life, signaling a pivotal moment in the potato farming landscape. This initiative was unveiled at the recent Agro Professional Meeting in La Rinconada, Seville, under the Meléndez x Origen Project. Attended by over 100 farmers from Spain and Portugal, along with stakeholders from distribution chains and suppliers, the event heralded a collaborative effort to revolutionize the industry.
The gathering commenced with a theoretical session delving into the current state of affairs within the sector. It emphasized the paramount importance of promotion to garner societal recognition for the dedication, innovation, and professionalism inherent in potato cultivation. Often underestimated due to general unawareness and the absence of communication and awareness campaigns, the industry now stands poised for transformation.
Among the speakers were Pedro B., María Álvarez Escalante, and Marco Roman Escalona, each presenting distinct perspectives on the imperative to consolidate efforts for advancement. Their shared vision underscored the necessity of unity to navigate the challenges ahead.
Subsequently, attendees witnessed the commencement of potato planting at Finca Mata Amarilla. Here, farmers exchanged insights into this year’s campaign outlook, ongoing practices, and the diverse challenges encountered across regions. It was a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the agricultural community in confronting evolving landscapes.
Gratitude was extended to Revista CAMPO and its team for their invaluable contributions, reaffirming the collaborative spirit driving progress within the sector.
