Potatoes will drop in price to 30 rubles against the backdrop of imports from the Kuban and Kherson region after an increase in the cost in the fall of 2021 to 70 rubles.
In the Rostov region in the near future the cost of potatoes will fall to 30 rubles per kilogram. Such a forecast was made by economist Vladimir Kosov, a specialist of the Rostov reference center of Rosselkhoznadzor.
In wholesale, potatoes cost 20 rubles per kilogram. At this price, the vegetable is sent to St. Petersburg and Moscow. Dealers will set a retail price of 40-45 rubles for it in Russian capitals.
“June 27, the first day they started trading at a price of 20 rubles per kilogram, there were a lot of people, mostly wholesalers, and today there are a lot of private traders,” Vladimir Kosov said in an interview with Don 24.
According to Kosov, farmers predict the cost of potatoes in Rostov stores at 30 rubles per kilogram.
The decrease in the cost of potatoes is associated with its harvest in the Kuban, Crimea and Kherson region. Due to the great competition among producers, only good quality potatoes are brought to the Rostov region.
In October 2021, there was a scandal in the Rostov region due to a sharp rise in the price of potatoes to 70 rubles. Cars lined up to buy potatoes for 35 rubles from farmers.
The Rostov authorities appealed to the FAS on the issue of a sharp jump in potato prices. During September 2021, the cost of potatoes increased by 16.8% according to Rostovstat.
Appeals to the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the department of the consumer market of the region were sent to take measures to prevent a rise in prices for fruits and vegetables. Prior to this, monthly monitoring of prices for potatoes, white cabbage, onions, carrots and beets was carried out ahead of schedule.
