Due to the rise in food prices, residents of the Czech Republic remembered the opportunity to grow vegetables for their own needs in household and suburban areas. This trend is reflected in the reports of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Vegetable Union of the Republic.
Vegetables on land plots with an average area of 70 m² are already grown by more than half a million households. And not only in rural areas, but also in cities.
In 2022, amateur farmers harvested more than 303 thousand tons of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, onions, carrots, peas and other types of crops from their beds. The harvest they received reached almost 19% of the volume grown throughout the country.
Today, the total area of private vegetable gardens is about four thousand hectares. In the organized sector, 11 thousand hectares were allocated to this area last year, 288 hectares less than in 2022.
