Colombia’s Frozen Express finds success with Elea PEF system

Frozen Express is one of the largest potato processors and manufacturers of frozen French fries in Colombia. The family-owned company has been producing potato products for more than 25 years and is committed to Colombian farmers from whom they source raw products.

In August 2021, Frozen Express has installed an Elea PEF system into their production line as part of an upgrade of their processing line. The aim of the PEF implementation was to be able to produce larger fries in different shapes with better quality and to save costs in the production process.

Guillermo Fonseca, Engineering manager at Frozen Express says: “We decided to use PEF to improve our lines and produce better food with less resources. Elea was the best choice for us because the company has a lot of experience, many credentials and very good technical support.”

Elea is a world-leading supplier of PEF technology and offers a range of different sized PEF belt systems with varying line capacities. Together with Ignacio Alonzo, Elea’s representative in Colombia, an Elea PEF Advantage B10 -320 system has been installed with a line capacity reaching from one single tuber up to 12 tons per hour.

Together with Ignacio Alonzo, Elea representative in Colombia, they have installed the Elea Advantage Belt in the scope of upgrading their preparation line. Alonzo assisted on-site with the installation and collaboration with the Frozen Express technicians.

Elea PEF technology replaces conventional preheating of potato tubers and reduces overall water and energy consumption. In addition, an improved cutting, more product yield and better quality have been observed. The system is installed prior to hydrojet cutting, where the low heat and energy process causes tissue softening and cutting enhancement.
