Open Farm Sunday invites farmers to get involved
Organisers of Open Farm Sunday (OFS) 2025 are extending their support and calling on UK potato growers to join the initiative.
The annual event, organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), aims to educate consumers about natural farming practices and bridge the gap between producers and buyers. Farms across the country are invited to open their doors to the public.
What does the programme include?
This year’s programme includes:
Two free face-to-face workshops in March – one in Yorkshire and one in Berkshire – where farmers can gain practical knowledge and share experiences with previous participants.
Nine online webinars from December to May covering key aspects of organising an open day: logistics, marketing, guest engagement and safety standards.
A grower’s guide – with useful ideas and tips for running a successful open day.
Open Farm Sunday 2025 will take place on 8 June, and OFS Manager Annabel Shackleton has called on potato growers to get involved:
“By engaging with consumers and inspiring the public to understand sustainable farming practices, we can show how safe and sustainable produce is produced. Open Farm Sunday is a powerful platform for connecting, informing and showcasing the important work farmers do – from family farms to large enterprises. We look forward to supporting all participants and making their journey to OFS as smooth as possible.”
The Open Farm Sunday Impact
According to the 2024 event report:
- 96% of attendees left with a greater respect for the work of farmers.
- 91% of guests expressed a desire to buy more British produce.
“The connection between consumers and producers is strong when people see how farming works first-hand. Open Farm Sunday helps to revive this process and create positive connections,” Shackleton concluded.
