BURTS CHIPS INVESTS GBP3M IN NEW FRYING LINE IN PLYMOUTH

British potato chip maker Burts Chips installs a second high-speed potato frying line at its Plymouth production site, which will increase the production with 20%, according to the local press.

The investment has a value of GBP3m and it creates 12 new jobs, bringing its total headcount to 168.

This will see 200 tons of Burts’ hand cooked chips being made every week, alongside 23 tons of the fast-growing Better For You range of Lentil Waves and Quiona Crinkles launched in the last two years.

Burts say the increase in capacity will help satisfy the growing demand for the brand from retailers across the world.

“We are delighted to welcome the new team members to our Burts family,” said Burts’ MD David Nairn. “We continue to go from strength to strength as a business and have grown from GBP11.4m in 2013 to GBP24.5m in 2016. This year we are on course to see a further 30% rise in sales and the new potato fryer is integral to the continuing this success, giving us the additional capacity needed to fulfill increased demand from our existing customers, as well as driving new business and innovation.”
