Potato production is the hallmark of the Bryansk region. As the head of the region Alexander Bogomaz said at a meeting of the regional Duma, thanks to the increase in potato production, it was possible to lead to a gradual decrease in the dependence of the country’s domestic market on imports, as well as to support the growth of export supplies.
Only last year, the gross production of potatoes in farms of all categories amounted to 1,120 thousand tons. The best fields of the region produce 700 c/ha of potatoes. For comparison, the yield of potatoes in the Netherlands is 450 c/ha, in the Republic of Belarus – 260 c/ha. In addition, the Bryansk region has mastered the production of potato chips varieties, which are readily purchased abroad.
