The Netherlands exported over 72,000 tons of consumer and industrial potatoes last month. Of these, almost 42,000 tons ended up in Belgium. This is evidenced by the 2022 crop export data for January 2023 published by the Dutch Potato Organization (NAO).
Belgium has already purchased 227,000 tons of Dutch potatoes since the start of this marketing season in July 2022. This is almost 80,000 tons more than last season for the same period. On the contrary, the German purchase is still disappointing. So far, the country has harvested 31,000 tons of Dutch potatoes, about 17,000 tons less than last season at the same time.
Outside of Europe, the African country of Senegal is an important buyer of potatoes from the Netherlands. Purchases of over 2,000 tons in January brought the total to 33,000 tons. Thus, the total production exceeds the previous marketing season by more than 10,000 tons. After Senegal, the main African consumers are Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania.
