In a proactive move to address the soaring prices of food commodities, Bangldesh has initiated the import of potatoes from India through the Benapole Port, signifying a significant development in the realm of agricultural trade.
On Thursday, the 14th of March, a noteworthy consignment comprising 200 metric tonnes of potatoes arrived at the Benapole Port, traversing from India via the Petrapole Port in a convoy of eight trucks. Port Director Rezaul Karim officially confirmed the successful import of the potatoes, marking a substantial addition to the region’s agricultural trade landscape. Notably, this import follows a previous consignment of 74 tonnes of potatoes, which arrived in three trucks on the 2nd of December.
The importer of this substantial potato consignment is Integrated Food and Beverage, with PepsiCo India Holdings recognized as the exporter. The import cost for each metric tonne of potatoes stands at $194.
This is the second notable consignment of potatoes imported through the Benapole Port. Noteworthy efforts are being undertaken to facilitate the expeditious clearance of goods, underscoring the commitment to fostering seamless trade operations and bolstering regional agricultural dynamics.
This concerted effort reflects a pivotal step in fortifying trade partnerships while catering to the vital requirements of the local market, ultimately contributing to the sustainable and resilient growth of the agricultural sector.
