Asia’s leading seaweed snack brand is coming to the United States

Asia’s leading seaweed snack brand is coming to the United States

New Southern California-based snack food company Nora Snacks, a US subsidiary of the Thai seaweed manufacturer Taokaenoi, is excited to introduce Asia’s favorite seaweed chip to America at the recent Natural Products Expo East in Baltimore, MD.

Debuting via Amazon and other online retailers (and launching in grocery aisles later this fall), the Nora lineup offers a range of disruptive formats, including new-to-market, flavored seaweed tempura chips.

The brand is the brainchild of industry veterans Itthipat “Tob” Peeradechapan (the Thai wunderkind who founded Taokaenoi Food and Marketing PCL, Asia’s largest seaweed snack company known for its wildly popular seaweed chips), and Tim Minges, who was first introduced to seaweed chips (and by extension, Tob) during his tenure as President of PepsiCo Asia.

Pairing their extensive individual experiences with their mutual love of snackable seaweed, the two are reimagining the ancient Korean crop in irresistibly delicious new ways to satisfy American consumers’ craving for variety, discovery, and taste.

Itthipat “Tob” Peeradechapan, founder of Taokaenoi Food and Marketing PCL:

“You have to taste Nora to believe it. It has all the goodness of seaweed and all the irresistibility of a potato chip.”

“Taokaenoi has become a market leader everywhere it launches, and we are confident that Americans, too, will soon fall in love with the incredible taste of Nora.”

Nora’s debut snack lineup includes:

  • Crispy Original: delicate yet satisfying, flash fried and salted seaweed thins that will send your tongue spinning. Certified non-GMO; contains no MSG or artificial ingredients. Vegan and gluten-free.
  • Original Tempura: bite-sized seaweed chips battered and flash fried to crispy, crunchy perfection. Your favorite vegetable tempura, now anywhere you like it. Non-GMO; contains no MSG or artificial ingredients. Vegan.
  • Spicy Tempura: bite-sized seaweed chips battered and flash fried to crispy, crunchy perfection – and kicked up with an extra notch of heat. Your favorite vegetable tempura, now anywhere you like it. Non-GMO; contains no MSG or artificial ingredients. Vegan.
  • Roasted Flavors of the World (multi-pack): roasted seaweed thins in Siam Sea Salt, Vietnamese Pho, and Japanese Curry flavors in convenient to-go packs. Great for lunchboxes, pockets, or purses. Certified Organic & non-GMO; contains no MSG or artificial ingredients. Vegan and Kosher.

Not only do the company’s new snacks pack a satisfyingly tasty punch – but each is non-GMO, contains no MSG or artificial ingredients, and is vegan – and made with only the finest, high-quality Korean seaweed.

Tim Minges:

“Nora taps into so many trends: natural, plant-based, sustainably-sourced… and oh yeah, they taste amazing.”

“Seaweed chips are already 25% of the salty snacks category in parts of Asia. Like sushi and sriracha, it’s only a matter of time until Americans realize what they’ve been missing.”
