Abundant Sweet Potato Harvest in Vietnam Amid Favorable Weather

Akim Kovalev

Vietnam experiences optimal weather conditions, leading to a plentiful sweet potato yield, with opportunities for international exportation.

Sweet potatoes, a versatile crop well-suited to diverse soil types and climates, thrive across Vietnam’s agricultural landscape, from the northern regions to the southern provinces. Ly Nguyen, Sales Executive at Van Xuan Agri, underscores the adaptability of sweet potatoes to various environmental conditions, citing the recent favorable weather as conducive to robust growth.

“The recent weather has been exceptionally favorable, resulting in an abundant sweet potato harvest. With ample rainfall throughout May, the region has been spared from the drought conditions that have plagued previous years,” notes Ly Nguyen. The hot and dry climate, coupled with sufficient irrigation, creates an ideal environment for sweet potato cultivation, contributing to a steady supply throughout the year.

Vietnam boasts four primary sweet potato varieties distinguished by color: white, purple, orange, and yellow. Among these, the yellow sweet potato reigns supreme in export markets. Van Xuan Agri capitalizes on Vietnam’s thriving sweet potato industry, catering to international demand, particularly from China. While China predominantly imports raw sweet potatoes, other Asian and European countries, including Korea, Japan, the Netherlands, and the USA, favor frozen or steamed varieties.

As Vietnam’s sweet potato harvest flourishes amidst favorable weather conditions, opportunities for international trade abound, positioning the country as a key player in the global sweet potato market.
