For the time being, Egypt doesn’t has fresh potato, We have only stored potato into cold store from our previous production of summer crop which was high in-terms of yield .
So the prices right now between Euro 200- 250 / ton depends on quality, these are for Cara& Spunta which are mainly for local consumption varieties into the Egyptian market, on the same time the demand on the market is weak, Maybe this is due to high volume of supply from old crop , worm weather, and for sure the capability of purchasing has been changed!! Otherwise processing sector has suffered from shortage of processing varieties like Hermes and Santana, The prices has increased, It’s between Euro 350- 400 / ton .
On the same time, Exporting stored potato to Arab and Gulf countries has slightly going well with good volume .
Egypt has been announced officially the indicator prices of new wheat crop 2023 would be Euro 350 / ton and maybe they would increased this prices on next April 2023 if the Global of wheat prices will be more than this indicator prices!! They have tried to support and encourage the Egyptian Growers to plants wheat crop, as well as to keep food security in Egypt.
So, For sure Next season there is high competition between wheat crop and other crops like potato and peans in – terms of surface planted area in Egypt . Meanwhile the plantation of grain crops has low risk, low production cost and grantee prices from the government .
