Potato producers exhibited a range of innovative products at Anuga 2017, this year’s largest food and beverage trade show, organized by Koelnmesse in October. As with every edition, the organizers set up a special innovation area, called “Anuga taste Innovation Show”, where products from different categories were showcased, including several potato items, some of which included:
Sweet Potato Baked with Herb Curd
German company Popp Feinkost followed the trend of more popular sweet spuds with its new products: sweet potato baked with herb curd as a dip. The vegetable is precooked using a gentle steaming method. Hence, the nutrients and vitamins retain the typical sweet potato taste and optimum consistency.
Protein Crisps
Targeting the regular consumer and not the athletes, the company “Our Little Rebellion” presented a new crisps snack with a high protein content. Packed with 10 grams of filling, plant-based protein from high-quality ingredients, like soybeans and cassava, the crisps promotes eating protein as tastier and easier. The product is available in three flavors – Sweet & Smokey BBQ, Hot Buffalo and Wasabi Ginger.
Handmade chips with olive oil
The company Pafritas introduced the handmade selected and fried potatoes in olive oil. These new items are presented as a top quality products, handcrafted and fried with the best olive oil.
Italian-style crisps
The company San Carlo presented Italian-style crisps Più Gusto – a range that brings creativity into the world of crisps. Original potato crisps are “realigned to match the seasonal trends and the taste of the consumers”, according to the company. One of the unusual flavors is Mint and chili, a combination of refreshing and hot aromas.
KiMs slow roasted crisps
Danish company Orkla showcased crunchy, slow roasted crisps in four aromas. KiMs range of crisp products is presented as having a pure potato taste and available in four flavors: Sea salt; balsamic & sea salt; sour cream, spring onions & black pepper and sour cream, wild garlic & thyme.
