Shortage of Potato Seeds Sparks Concerns Across Slovenia
Slovenian farmers and gardeners are grappling with a shortage of potato seeds, with approximately one-fifth less available on store shelves compared to previous years. Some popular varieties are completely unavailable, adding to the challenge faced by growers.
The scarcity of potato seeds is a pressing issue across Slovenia, with only a small quantity available at the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, while the majority is imported from abroad.
The root of the problem lies in the decreased availability of potato seeds in foreign markets, exacerbating the current shortage in Slovenia.
According to Ivan Brodnjak, head of the Agricultural and Forestry Institute at Ptuj, the potato seed shortage in Europe is attributed to poor potato harvests in the previous year.
