News of Belarus. In the northern regions of Belarus, they started harvesting the “second bread”. This season is a week earlier than usual, according to the 24 Hours News program on STV.
One of the first potato harvesters appear on the fields of the Vitebsk Zonal Institute of Agriculture. A quarter of the area has already been cleared. Varieties here are exclusively domestic selection. In total, in the Vitebsk region, potatoes are planted on an area of about two thousand hectares. Crop yields in 2022 are predicted to be higher than last year’s figures.
Ivan Chekalov, chief agronomist of the Vitebsk Zonal Institute of Agriculture:
The yield is now 320 centners per hectare. This seed sowing is a super-superelite. Weather and climatic conditions have developed this year better than last, the harvest pleases.
In 2022, stabilization funds have been significantly increased in our country. For potatoes – almost doubled. It is planned to lay about 50 thousand tons of products.
