DLG-Feldtage 2022: More than 320 exhibitors already signed up
14-16 June 2022 at the Kirschgartshausen farm near Mannheim, Germany – High expectations from co-organizers – Comprehensive technical program
(DLG). More than 320 exhibitors have now signed up for the DLG-Feldtage outdoor field event, which will be held from 14 to 16 June 2022, at the Kirschgartshausen Versuchsgut ‘experimental farm’ near Mannheim, Germany. The organizer DLG (German Agricultural Society) expects around 350 companies from the sectors of plant cultivation, plant breeding, plant protection, fertilizers, agricultural technology, consulting and services at the venue for crop cultivation professionals. An up-to-date exhibitor overview can be found at w w w. dlg-feldtage. de under “Exhibitors & Products”. The DLG Feldtage trade fair is accompanied by a practically-oriented technical program with highlights such as ultra-shallow tillage, mechanical weed control, organic farming and an international wheat grower comparison event as well as an international field robot contest.
Positive expectations from the co-organizers
The Ministry of Food, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection of Baden-Württemberg (MLR) is one of the co-organizers of the DLG Fedltage 2022. “I am looking forward to the trade fair in Mannheim because it is an ideal platform to present new developments and technology in crop production and to enter into a personal exchange with farmers. This cannot be replaced by an online conference,” said Peter Hauk, Minister of Food, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection. With the slogan “using experience, breaking new ground”, the MLR will be presenting current regional topics in a clear and practical way. Over 90 display trial plots have been laid out on almost 5,000 square meters of exhibition area in the field. We cover the broad spectrum of crop production in the Baden-Württemberg state and provide answers on how to reduce the use of pesticides as well as crop production issues in the face of climate change.
Dr. Christoph Leufen, Head of Crop Production at Raiffeisen Waren-Zentrale Rhein-Main eG (RWZ), a co-organizer, is waiting in the wings with his team and colleagues from RW Kassel, ZG Karlsruhe, ‘Hauptsaaten – Seed and Service’’ and Agrartechnik. “The agricultural sector is facing numerous both urgent and long-term changes, challenges and opportunities. We have a lot to show and are pleased to be able to present not only our products and consulting services but also opportunities and concepts after such a long time without face-to-face meetings. In addition to these exciting topics, we are very much looking forward to the conversations with old friends as well as making new ones, which have unfortunately had to come up short in the last few years,” said Leufen.
Co-organizer Vereinigte Hagel, a leading crop insurance company in Germany, will be recreating storm damage on its trial plots using the “Hasi” hail simulation machine accompanied by live commentary. In addition to the traditional arable crops, storm damage in vegetable production will also be shown this year due to the regional situation. Visitors can also try their hand at estimating hailstorm damage themselves. “In addition to information on our insurance range, the topics on the agenda this year are weather data and weather forecasts, which we strive to make ever more precise by means of our meteosol® weather stations. We already look forward to the technical discussions that we have missed so much over the last few years,” said Daniel Rittershaus, Head of Communication, Vereinigte Hagel.
Comprehensive technical program – from ultra-shallow tillage to weed hunting robots:
Field Vegetables
Since the DLG Feldtage 2022 will take place in the immediate vicinity of the Palatinate, Germany’s largest, enclosed open-air vegetable growing region, a DLG special show on the topic of “Field Vegetables” will explore cultivation and marketing of this crop.
Organic farming
In 2021, the area of organic agriculture reached nearly 11% of farm land in Germany while organic arable land rose by around 9%. With more farmers converting to organic farming, especially in Germany, and the rising interest in mechanical weed control technology, DLG’s special show on this topic is set to attract current and future organic farmers who will be able to learn more on plant breeding, cultivation, operating resources and agricultural technology as well as the marketing of organic produce.
Machinery demonstrations
Over 70 machines are currently signed up for the machine demonstrations, including 21 machines for shallow tillage – from chain disc harrows to organic tillers, shallow cultivators, disc harrows and shallow ploughs – 16 row crop cultivators, 12 crop protection sprayers, eight harrows, nine tractors and telescopic loaders, and, on the new topic of “Lifting, Loading and Filling in the Field,” six fertilizer spreaders and five machines equipped with nitrogen-sensors.
International Field Robot Event (FRE)
The annual International Field Robot Event, a field robot contest for international student teams, will be held for the fourth time at DLG Feldtage, with contestants showcasing some of the advances in field robotics. Typical field tasks include navigation in curved maize rows, in straight rows with or without missing plants, weed and litter recognition and subsequent removal to the headland. University teams from Denmark, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Romania, Slovenia and the United Kingdom have previously taken part.
International wheat cultivation comparison
The tradition event in the trial field, which has been an important part of the DLG-Feldtage since 1988, this year include agronomists from seven countries and regions. With their crops in the ground since October 2021 at the event venue in Mannheim, Germany, each participant strives to achieve the highest direct cost-free performance on the site. The cultivation options include crop variety, sowing method, fertilizer strategy and crop protection planning means that a wide range of growing strategies will be on display.
Alternative crops for crop rotation
At the DLG booth V K51, alternative crops such as hemp, chickpea, lentil, quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, grain millet and lupine will be on display in trial plots. During lunchtime on the three days of the event, experienced farmers will be on hand to answer questions about their experiences and the marketing opportunities for these relatively rare seeds.
