Learn about the challenges and possibilities that the digital revolution will bring to global food, fuel and fiber production at Washington State University’s first Digital Agriculture Summit, planned virtually Oct. 6 and 7.
Highlighted speakers include U.S. Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee; Norman Scott, Cornell University Professor Emeritus in Biological & Environmental Engineering; and Steve Thomson, USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture National Program Leader for the Division of Agricultural Systems.
Hosted by scientists at WSU’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture and the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, the summit brings industry, science, and government leaders together to discuss the future of digital agriculture. Policy issues, industry challenges and research progress will be engaged through presentations, tech demonstrations, poster sessions and networking opportunities.
“Digital technologies like A.I., sensors, and big data have transformed so many aspects of our lives,” said summit co-chair Claudio Stöckle, professor at WSU’s Department of Biological Systems Engineering. “These advances bring vast potential to benefit the field of agriculture, but they remain largely untapped.”
“This inaugural summit will help partners in agriculture, industry, policy, and academia work more closely together to bring the digital revolution to fruition,” added co-chair Ananth Kalyanaraman, professor and Boeing Centennial Chair in Computer Science at WSU’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. “We hope these conversations are a launch pad for innovation that can make a real and positive impact on growers, science and society.”
Submissions are being taken for abstracts presenting research, technological or policy developments in digital agriculture. Selected abstracts will be presented as part of a five-minute lightning talk during the summit.
Attendance is free. Visit the summit website to learn more. Registration is available online.
