A new article will be added to the law “On Protection of Consumer Rights” – “State regulation of the food market”.
The food market in Azerbaijan will be regulated by the state. Appropriate changes are proposed to be made to the law “On Protection of Consumer Rights”, which was discussed at today’s meeting of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) committee on agrarian policy, the press service of the legislative body reported.
A new article will be added to the legal act – “State regulation of the food market”.
Ensuring the food safety of the population will be carried out by the structure established by the relevant executive authority.
According to the project, the tasks of the state in the field of ensuring food security of the population are:
formation and implementation of state policy in the field of increasing food production and regulating the food market;
preparation and implementation of targeted state programs for food safety of the population;
creation of state stocks of food products, their formation, storage, use and regulation;
preparation of a food balance sheet reflecting the production, consumption and turnover of food products, and forecasting the provision of food products to the population;
regulation of providing the population with food products during the food crisis and emergency situations.
It should be noted, according to the information of the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, the country provides itself with fruits, vegetables, gourds and eggs by 100%.
In addition, Azerbaijan provides itself with 85-86% of meat and dairy products, and relies on imports for the rest.
Wheat in the country provides 60% of domestic consumption. The main exporters of wheat to Azerbaijan this year were Russia and Kazakhstan.
