Successful Potato Harvest in Samosir: A Model for Effective Agricultural Support
The Samosir District of North Sumatra has witnessed a successful potato harvest thanks to significant support from the local government and the Provincial Government of North Sumatra. On August 23, 2024, Bupati Samosir Vandiko T. Gultom, along with the Marlundu farming group, celebrated a bountiful harvest in Desa Partungko Naginjang. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of collaborative agricultural support and offers a model for similar initiatives.

The group, consisting of 25 households, achieved a harvest of over 7 tons of potatoes, valued at around IDR 70 million. Gorman Sinaga, the group leader, expressed satisfaction with the results and plans to use a portion of the harvest as seed potatoes for future planting.
Key Outcomes and Support
- Harvest Results: The yield of 33 tons per hectare is reported to be excellent, with many potatoes of superior quality. This performance is attributed to the high-quality seeds and favorable growing conditions.
- Government Support: The Provincial Government of North Sumatra authorized additional aid, including 20 tons of potato seeds for distribution across three sub-districts: Harian, Onan Runggu, and Simanindo. In addition, organic fertilizer and training on fertilizer production were provided to enhance crop growth and sustainability.
- Future Plans: Bupati Gultom emphasized the importance of ongoing support and collaboration between farmers and government bodies. He encouraged farmers to adhere to government guidelines and maintain open communication about their needs. Future initiatives will include further assistance in the form of agricultural equipment and infrastructure improvements.
