A new taste of the famous British potatoes has been recently released by Sainsbury’s. According to the manufacturer, only the freshest, most flavorsome British tubers make it into Sainsbury’s Summer Edition Ham & Piccalilli flavor chips.
“So we work closely with our farmers to choose the best-tasting varieties throughout the year. Then we simply wash the spuds and cut them into generous slices, before cooking each batch by hand. The result? Golden gourmet crisps, packed with crunch and flavor. That’s why you can taste the difference,” the company’s representatives said.
The British potato industry revenue is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 1.9% over the five years through 2021-2022 to reach GBP2.7bn. Innovation from industry operators has contributed to revenue growth over the past five years, although changing consumer tastes, volatile weather conditions, and input costs have created difficulties for operators.
Moreover, competition, particularly from cheaper own-brand products, has restricted industry revenue growth. The number of enterprises operating in the industry is expected to remain stable over the five years through 2021-2022, whereas the number of establishments is expected to fall at a compound annual rate of 2.1%
