Nevertheless, the department noted that this is a very complex technology that has yet to be finalized.
Unmanned aerial vehicles will be used for the next agricultural census in all regions of Russia, if funding allows. This was stated by TASS Deputy Head of Rosstat Konstantin Laikam.
“Of course, we can say that drones will be put into operation as part of the agricultural census in all regions of the Russian Federation, if funding allows. They performed very well in those pilot regions where we were able to use them as part of the last microcensus. Unfortunately “It’s not cheap. But on the other hand, the figures are very objective, because not all farmers and owners of personal subsidiary plots can correctly assess their holdings,” he said.
However, according to Lycam, you need to understand that this is a very complex technology that has yet to be finalized. “Firstly, it is rational to build routes, come up with sampling methods, learn how to qualitatively process photographs into digital information. We have already learned how to do all this, but at this stage this is still an inferior technology,” he stressed.
At the same time, one cannot count on the fact that, as a result, drones will be able to replace census takers, the deputy head of Rosstat emphasized. “Yes, we can see the area, how it is used. However, they will not be able to count people, cattle,” he said.
40 thousand people were involved in the last micro-census. Their training took place from 29 to 31 July 2021. The amount of remuneration amounted to 18 thousand rubles.
The agricultural micro-census took place in Russia from August 1 to August 30, 2021. The purpose of the observation is to assess the resource base and potential of the country’s agricultural sector, as well as structural changes in agriculture. Rosstat is responsible for the preparation and conduct of the micro-census. The results of the census should be published before the end of the fourth quarter of 2022.
