Employees of the department control the supply of crop tubers to the region
This year, about 4,000 hectares of potatoes are planned to be planted in the Kharabalinsky district alone. Entrepreneurs buy seed material from the Vologda, Moscow and Samara regions. In order to prevent the spread of infection and reduce yields, Rosselkhoznadzor specialists check the tubers for compliance with phytosanitary requirements. Damage or painful changes are not allowed.
The selected samples are transferred to the testing laboratory of the Astrakhan branch of the Rostov reference center of Rosselkhoznadzor. They study the external state of agriculture. To save the crop, you need to choose the right seed material. Tubers should be whole, dry and with a strong skin. During the study, potatoes are also checked for the presence of pests and viruses.
“During helminthological examination, nematodes of various species and groups are identified. Metalogical examination includes examination of tubers for cancer and potato smut. Potatoes are also being tested for the detection of viral and bacterial diseases by PCR,” said laboratory agronomist Natalia Khrapova.
The products passed the quality control — quarantine and other hazardous objects were not detected. Employees of the Rosselkhoznadzor continue to control the supply of crops to the region.
