The US Beaverton Oregon food manufacturer Reser’s Fine Foods, known for its potato salad, expanded its Mid-Columbia operations with the opening of a new processing plant in Franklin County, just north of Pasco.
The new 170,000-square-foot facility is now up and running, capable of producing potato salads, mashed potatoes, and macaroni, according to the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland) media reports.
In addition, an expansion of approximately 70,000 square feet for hot food processing capabilities is already in the works. While Reser’s offers a wide range of products, the Pasco location will continue to focus on the company’s most popular potato dishes.
Now that the 250 employees have relocated to the new facility, the old one will be renovated, bringing Reser’s total processing space in Pasco to approximately 350,000 square feet, representing a USD120m investment. They are still hiring for the new facility and will need to hire even more people once the expansion and remodeling projects are completed.
Reser’s is a family-owned business that began in 1950 by selling potato salad from a recipe created by Mildred Reser. To supplement the family’s income, Mrs. Reser’s Salads sold side dishes to local stores under the name Mrs. Reser’s Salads. It grew over the years to include other categories, eventually becoming a company with revenue “well beyond” USD1bn.
It employs more than 4,000 people at 14 major facilities in eight communities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Its prepared salads and side dishes are a staple of grocery store deli departments across the region. It produces deli salads, deli sides, entrees, dips, Mexican foods, cut potatoes, and desserts. It markets its food products under the brands Reser’s, Main St. Bistro, Stonemill Kitchens, Don Pancho, and Baja Café.
It is one of Oregon’s largest privately-held companies and is the namesake for Reser Stadium on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis.
