Heavy rainfall actually destroyed the crop harvest in the private subsidiary farms of the Sverdlovsk region. The Ural Research Institute of Agriculture noted that potato plants were affected by a fungal disease – late blight, which completely stops the process of photosynthesis.
It was possible to save the plantings only in the organized sector, where regular field treatments with fungicides were carried out. And in a number of farms, the problem was solved by choosing potato varieties resistant to late blight. Among them, for example, Alaska, Shah, Barguzin, Gornyak.
